Seven fishermen from Pudukottai district of Tamil Nadu were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on Sunday morning. These fishermen are accused of illegally violating the territorial waters.

The fishermen had left in two mechanized boats from the fishing port Jegathapattinam on Saturday morning. All the fishermen were fishing near 'Nedunthivu' early on Sunday when the Sri Lankan Navy arrested them for trespassing. Coastal security group sources said the fishermen were taken to Kankesanthurai naval base along with their mechanized boats.

According to official sources, the names of the arrested fishermen are S. Kaliappan (53), P. Akilan (18), P. Kodi Mari (65), S. Sheikh Abdullah (35), K. Thangaraj (54), A. Jayaraman (40) and S. The name of Saravanan (24) has been confirmed. There has been no reaction from the state government and other political parties in this matter yet.
